Dorothy Lillian (MacDonald) Campbell

Born In: Glace Bay
Born: March 6th, 1929

Passed in: Glace Bay
Passed on: April 19th, 2014

We are sad to announce the peaceful passing of our mother on Saturday, April 19, at the Glace Bay Health Care Facility, surrounded by her loving family.
Dot was born in Glace Bay, the daughter of Josephine and John Eveleigh.
She was predeceased by her first husband, John MacDonald, and later by her second husband, Bill Campbell. She was also predeceased by her parents, and by siblings, Albert, George, Loretta, Leslie, Gordon and Garfield.
She is survived by her four children, whom she loved and of whom she was very proud, Dr. Wayne (Brenda) MacDonald, Sharon (Greg) MacNeil, Joe (Therese) MacDonald and Heather (Jude) McDonald, as well as 12 grandchildren; six (and counting) great-grandchildren, and by her brother Eric Eveleigh.
Dot cared deeply for her stepchildren, Billy Dombrowski, Joe (Marg) Campbell, Greg (Anne) Campbell, Betty (Michael) Murphy and Sheldon Campbell, as well as 10 more grandchildren and 10 more great-grandchildren.
Dorothy always had a special place in her heart for nephews Percy McPherson and Robert Eveleigh, and nieces Linda Matheson and Patsy Boutilier.
Her longtime friends Bette Chauder and Beppi Jillette will be waiting to greet her. Her new friends, fellow “Golden Girls” Dory and Marie, will miss her greatly.
Dot loved to bake, especially for her extended family. Her cinnamon rolls were famous; her coconut cream pie was a great treat. Dot had a big personality and could be counted on to keep things lively and interesting. She had been very active skating, bowling, and playing darts. Playing cards was one of her great joys, almost as much as wearing new clothes. She was a longtime member of St. John’s parish, and an active member of the CWL.
“Nanny Dot” liked nothing better than playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially those with “fat cheeks” that she was famous for pinching. Her easy smile will be missed by the large number of nieces and nephews in her extended family, as well as the many friends she had made through the years.
Thank you to the staff of Miner’s Memorial Manor RCU and Taigh Na Mara who treated Mom with such love and respect. Thanks also to Dr. MacLean and the warm and attentive staff of the 3rd floor of the Glace Bay Hospital.
Visitation will be on Thursday, April 24 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 25, at 10 a.m. in St Anne’s Church. The Rev Leo Boone will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.
