John MacDonald

MacDONALD, John Murray – 82, Shiretown Nursing Home, Pictou passed away peacefully on April 20, 2014 in the home with family at his side. Born in River John, he was a son of the late Murray Alvin & J. Patricia (Colter). John spent the early portion of his working career in Edmonton, Alberta in auto sales and management. He and his family moved back to Pictou in 1972 and he continued his career in the fishing industry in general management and procurement for several companies. He was an ardent Toronto sports fan, watching and cheering the Leafs and Blue Jays till the end. John is survived by children, Kim (Ed) Greenough; Heather MacDonald, both of Waverley; Carolin (Mike) Simmons, Ft. McMurray, Alberta; John Jr. (Dana), Kitchener, Ontario; grandchildren, Nick, Jacob, Ben, Colin, Alison, and “Lucky”; sisters, Ann Jendruszka, Edie Hiscock,; Lynn Armstrong, all of Calgary; Helen MacBeath, Riverview; Susan MacDonald, Whitehorse; Janice Spencer, Calgary; Allyson MacDonald, Marion MacDonald both of Pictou; Maureen Barnhartt, Whitehorse; Heather Perry, Coaldale; brothers, Dwight and Laurie, both of Pictou. John was predeceased by his wife Mary Violet, brothers, Brian ‘Shack’, Dale, Albro; sister, Nancy. Cremation has taken place. A private family service will take place at a later date. Donations may be made in his memory to the Canadian Cancer Society. The MacDonald family would like to express sincere gratitude to the staff at the Shiretown nursing home for their love and kindness toward our dad during his stay in the home. To our friends and family members who would watch over John for us, we will be forever grateful in your assistance in caring for, visiting and continued support to our father, we truly appreciate. Arrangements are under the direction of McLaren Funeral Service, Pictou.
