Smeltzer, Rosamond Lena “Rossie, age 77, of Upper Vaughan, Hants County, passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2014, at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Rossie in her strong and caring manner said goodbye to her loving family giving the love and strength for her loved ones to carry on. Born on April 5, 1937, in Lower Vaughan, Hants County, Nova Scotia, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Dorothy (Rafuse) Gollan. In her earlier years, Rossie worked at Maritime Tel & Tel. She then took time off to care for her family, as well as being a foster mother for several years. During this time she was a 4-H leader in Vaughans. Several years later she went back to work as a personal care worker at the Dykeland Lodge in Windsor for a number of years. During her retirement Rossie and Ervin enjoyed antique vehicles and belonged to the Hants County Cruiser, Windsor (20 years) and Down East Classic. Often one could see Rossie sporting around in her bright yellow 1970 MG which won her several trophies that were displayed proudly in her home. Surviving are her loving and caring husband of 57 years Ervin Henry Smeltzer. Ervin adored his wife in his quiet loving manner and enabled her to stay at home as long as possible surrounded by the people she loved and who loved her. Words cannot express how grateful she was for that; daughters, Myrna Smeltzer (fiance’, Andy Hardwick), Dartmouth; Rodena (Andre’) Mignault, Middle Sackville; grandchildren, Krista (Ryan Harvey) and Katelyn Halbgewachs, Jessica and Alexandre Mignault; great granddaughter, Ayla Harvey; brother, Royston (Muriel) Gollan, Windsor; sisters, Elsie Swinimer, Wolfville; Lenore (Keith) Woodman, Falmouth; special sister, Valerie Gollan (Bob Shannon) , Dartmouth; several nieces and nephews. Rossie was predeceased by her parents, Charlie and Dorothy Gollan; her son, Douglas Antony Smeltzer (2008); sister, Phyllis Church; brother-in-law, Eric Swinimer. Visitation was 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home (902-798-2232), 194 King Street, Windsor. A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 3, 2014, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Curtis MacDonald officiated, followed by interment in the Maplewood Cemetery, 1186 King Street, Windsor.
