HINES, Dorothy May “Babe”, age 89, of Newport Station, Hants County, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on March 25, 1925, in Wentworth Creek, Hants County, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Alice (Mason) Whitehead. Dorothy loved to make and have family dinners and gatherings. She enjoyed doing puzzles and listening to Saturday morning music. Gardening was one of her passions, along with her housework. Family was most important to her and she never missed a day without saying good morning or good night. She is survived by her children, Betty (Bill) MacNeily, Newport Station; Shirley (Bill) Tilley, Newport Station; Robert (Cindy) Hines, Windsor; grandchildren, Paul (Julie) Tilley, Melissa Hines and Jonathan (Katrina) Hines; step granddaughter, Michelle MacNeily; great grandchildren, Cameron and Erik Tilley; Danika Hines; sisters, Hazel (Donald) VanTassel, Saint John, NB; Ruby Hines, Windsor; brother, Herman (Gladys) Whitehead, Dartmouth; sisters-in-law, Audrey Whitehead, Three Mile Plains; Eveline Whitehead, Truro; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Charles Reid Hines; an infant son; granddaughter, Lisa Tilley; siblings, Sidney, Cecil, Wilfred, Murray, Gordon, Donald, Clarence, Arnold, and Shirley Whitehead. There was no visitation by her request. Arrangements were under the care of Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home (902-798-2232), 194 King Street, P.O. Box 2218, Windsor. A public graveside service was 2 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2014, at the Ste. Croix Cemetery, Cemetery Road, St. Croix. The Rev. Garnet Parker officiated.
