We are saddened by the passing of Florence MacLeod, 89, who passed away peacefully on July 5, 2014, at Tiagh Solas, Northside General Hospital.
She was born at the family home on Patterson Road. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Dolena (Murray) Patterson.
Florence was a member of St. James Presbyterian Church in Big Bras d’Or and belonged to the ladies aid, also a member of the Big Bras d’Or Fire Department ladies auxiliary and member of the Eastern Star and WMS.
Florence worked at Alexander Graham Bell estate for 30 years where she was warmly welcomed into the family. She had many happy days sailing on the Elsie with the family and a picnic basket.
She will be sadly missed by her extended family and friends.
Survived by sons, Charles (Patsy), Big Bras d’Or, Angus, Glenn; daughter Arlene; nine grandchildren, Shawn (Kristy), Angela (Brian), Amy Jo (Raymond), Joey Bennett, Charles (Krissy), Katie (Issac), Dylan, Malcolm (Chantelle), Stephanie (Dale). Also survived by seven great-grandchildren, Ray Ray, Harrison (Collier) Connor, Keyna (MacLeod), Sophie Rose, Lucas (Poole), Ethan Neil MacLeod; sister-in-law, Mary Patterson and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by husband Neil Macleod, brothers, Neil, Murray, Angus, sisters, Isabell MacDonald, Sadie MacLean and also daughter-in-law Florie MacPherson MacLeod.
We the family want to thank the doctors and all the nurses at the Tiagh Solas who made every day special. Also the housekeepers and dietary who brought a smile to her face. We would also like to thank Rev. Peter MacDonald for his visits and kind words and prayers.
Visitation for the late Florence MacLeod will be in Fillmore &Whitman on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 10 , at 2 p.m. in St James Presbyterian Church, Big Bras d’Or with Rev. Peter MacDonald officiating with interment in parish cemetery.
Donations can be made to St. James Ways and Means Committee.
