Ada Morris

MORRIS, Ada Pearl - It is with deep sadness the family announces the passing of a very special wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Ada Pearl Morris passed away peacefully on July 2nd, 2014, at Grandview Manor in Berwick – she was 95. Born in Falkland Ridge, Annapolis County, on July 24th, 1918, she was the daughter of Edgar and Bessie Mason. She often recalled, with fondness, memories of her childhood years growing up on the “Ridge” and family ties to the community remained strong throughout her adult life. At the age of 19, Ada was offered employment at the general store/post office in Melvern Square and at that time took up residence with the owner's family, helping not only at the store but with household responsibilities as well. It was at this point in her life that she met and married Arden Morris, with whom she would happily spend the next 72 years. She lovingly brought four children into the world: Pearl (Winston) Magee, Louisbourg; Barbara (Marvin) Messom, Port Williams; Marguerite (Gordon) Messom, New Minas; and Aubrey (Leslie) Morris, Melvern Square. Over the years she became a special grandmother to 14, great-grandmother to 35 and a great-great-grandmother to 2. She is also survived by sister-in-law Edna Morris as well as many nieces and nephews. Ada's devotion and commitment was not limited to family and community but extended clearly to her church life. From her childhood years to the time of her passing, faith filled a large part of her life. She was a loyal member of her church “family” and served tirelessly over the years in various capacities- organist, Sunday School teacher, choir member, church treasurer, sewing circle member, Women's Missionary Aid member and nursing home visitation to name a few. Never one to sit idle, Ada found enjoyment and productivity in time spent sewing, quilting, knitting and crocheting for her family and friends. In later years Scrabble and cross word puzzles became favourite ways of passing time and staying “sharp”. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by brother, Francis, sister-in-law Lucienne; sister, Gertrude, brother-in-law Weldon Stevens; sister, Betty and brother-in-law Laurie Charlton. The family would like to express gratitude to all those involved in her care and support at the Manor. Our mother was very appreciative of you all including volunteers, her Scrabble “lady” and Joyce for being a special roommate during her stay. Visitation was held Sunday, July 6, with funeral service held on Monday, July 7. Both were held at the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street (902) 825-3448 with Rev. Sarah Scott officiating and Dr. Brian Banks assisting. Interment at the North Kingston Cemetery followed the reception. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Faith Baptist Church, North Kingston Cemetery or Grand View Manor. Online guest book may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
