Passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 with family by his side at the Union Hospital in Moose Jaw. Vern, at the age of 81, predeceased by his beloved wife Janet (2002). Loving father of Joyce, Ritchie, and Terry (Theresa Chorney), loving grandfather of Claudia and Aleksei. He will be greatly missed by his brother and best friend, Rienhart (Theresa), brother, Elmer (Jean) and by his sisters Irene Martens (Pete) and Margaret Norum (Don). Vern was born on February 24, 1933 to John and Ruth Berg on the family farm at Hallonquist, SK. The family later moved to what is now the family farm at Bateman, SK. He attended Peacock High School in Moose Jaw and worked as an accountant at Bird Construction and later as office manager at C&E Heating and Plumbing for many years. He married Janet Ritsco in 1958 and remained in Moose Jaw while raising his 3 children. He loved carpentry work and fixing and repairing pretty much everything, but took a special interest in plumbing. He began his own plumbing company, “Berg Service” in 1978 and operated it, still working on the odd job until his passing. He took a lot of pride in his yard and house and kept both immaculate until his brief illness. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Parkview Funeral Chapel, 474 Hochelaga St. W, Moose Jaw, with Reverend Bob Langdon officiating. Dad, though not a pet owner himself, thoroughly enjoyed and welcomed all our critters, many of which were rescue animals, when we came to visit.
