O’HANLEY, Roy Walter - After a period of failing health, the death of Roy Walter O’Hanley, of Veterans’ Place, Yarmouth, and formerly of Melbourne, NS, husband of Theresa May (Thibedeau) O’Hanley, occurred at his residence, on July 21, 2014. Born in Yarmouth, NS, on September 11, 1922, he was a son of the late Charles John O’Hanley, Jr. and Dora Mae (Beeching) O’Hanley. Besides his wife, he is survived by his sister, Doris (O’Hanley) Cox of Yarmouth, two sons, Charles J. (Cindy) and Peter R., both of Ontario, three grandchildren, Matthew (Corinna), Patrick (Sarah) and Catherine (Mrs. Alex Cicuttini), two great-grandsons, many nieces and nephews, and extended family, Brian and Eleanor McCafferty and their children. Besides his parents, Roy was predeceased by his only brother, Charles Beeching O’Hanley in 1941 and his first wife, Gena Mary (Sweeney), in 1991. Roy was very proud to have been one of Canada’s Veterans, having served in the Canadian Merchant Marine during World War II. Resting at H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth, NS, with visiting on Thursday, from 2 to 4 and again from 7 to 9 p.m. Roy was a devout Catholic and treasured his faith. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, July 25 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Melbourne, NS at 11:00 a.m., Father Patrick O’Meara officiated. Following cremation, interment took place in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Melbourne, NS. In lieu of flowers, remembrances to Veterans’ Place, Yarmouth, NS or to Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery Fund, Melbourne NS, or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. The family would like to extend their gratitude and deep appreciation to Dr. Patrick Friel and to the staff of Veteran's Place, Yarmouth, for the exceptional care and compassion they provided to Roy and to the family.
