Born: January 17th, 1934

Passed on: July 22nd, 2014

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother 'Nonna' and great-grandmother, Stella (Caretta) Campbell.
Born in Dominion, she was the daughter of the late Giovanni and Assunta Caretta.
Ma was the anchor of our family; a devoted, caring mother of eight children. Her caring spirit extended well beyond her family to anyone in need. She was a well-respected businesswoman; owner and operator of the Sandbar Beverage Room for many years. Mom was well known throughout the area for her superb cooking and baking skills. She was also a longtime member of the St. Eugene’s CWL.
Ma is survived by sons, Basil, Ronnie, Robert and daughters, Yvonne (Carl), Eileen (Frank), Linda, Suzanne (Jimmie). Also grandchildren, John O’Handley, Nicholas, Alexandra and Jordan Bruleigh, Jesse Campbell, Aidan Campbell, Ellie MacGean (Gerard), Savanna Dermody and great-grandchildren, Isabella MacGean.
She is also survived by her sister, Elizabeth (Beth) Attwood and her aunt, Anna Nicoletti.
Ma was predeceased by her husband, John (1986) and her son, Johnny (2009). Also her brother, Reno (2002) and her sister, Elsa (1941).
There will be no visitation as per Ma’s wishes. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, July 26 at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport with a reception to follow. The Rev. Daniel Boudreau will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the An Cala Unit or a charity of choice.
Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.jmcurryfuneralhome.com.
At this time, the family would like to thank the VON, particularly Nancy George, who went above and beyond in her care for Mom. As well, thank you to the palliative care team of doctors and nurses, especially Michelle Murphy, for her ongoing care and support.
"Peacefully sleeping
Resting at last
The world’s weary
Troubles and trials now past,
In silence she suffered,
In patience she bore
Till God called her home,
to suffer no more
Rest in peace dear Mother."
