Monica Ledwell

Passed on: July 17th, 2014

(Died July 17, 2014). Embraced by her family and with her usual grace and dignity, our beloved Monica "let her soul and spirit fly into the mystic" on the evening of July 17th. A graduate of Memorial University and McGill, Monica was a gifted ESL teacher much loved by her students and colleagues in Montreal, Muscat, Dubai, Doha and St. John's. Generous to a fault, fun loving and fashionable, she was the life of any party. Monica's passion for life, her "joie de vivre", and great courage in adversity inspired us all. Monica was loved deeply and devotedly cared for by her family, close friends and a supportive medical team. Cherished youngest daughter of the late Cecil and Alice (Butler) Ledwell, Monica was also predeceased by her Grandparents Vince and Monica Ledwell, Mary Ellen and Michael Butler, two infant siblings and other dear relatives. She is mourned by her sisters Jean Ann, OSU; Patrice, Elizabeth, Barbara; brothers James, Francis (Helen Pittman) John and Cecil (Rhonda) and sister-in-law Helen; by her devoted nieces and nephews: Godson Jonathan, Mark (Ruth) and Kristofor Watton, and their dad Wayne; Francis (Melissa) Alicia, Ralene (Shane) and Ashley (Danny) and great nephews Kaden, Mason and Wyatt; by her dear Aunt Madonna; by her "best" and lifelong girlfriends, and a wide circle of cousins, friends and colleagues from around the world. Monica was overjoyed to welcome her first great nieces Beatrix and Madeleine the day before her death. The Liturgy of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 AM on Saturday, July 26, at Mary Queen of Peace Parish (135 Torbay Road) with a reception to follow. Monica's ashes will be interred in Calvert and sprinkled on the waters in the beautiful Codroy Valley, her birthplace. In her memory, donations to The Gathering Place (172 Military Road, P.O. Box 1761, St. John's, NL A1C 5P5) would be greatly appreciated.
