Born In: Glace Bay

Passed in: Dominion
Passed on: July 23rd, 2014

With great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Stella Marks on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at her home.
Born in Glace Bay and a life long resident of Dominion, she was the daughter of the late Angelo and Italia (Morellato) Cechetto.
Stella was a retired teacher, having served 35 years with the Cape Breton District School Board. She began her career at Alder Point School followed by Mt. Carmel and B.E.C., both in New Waterford.
In her retirement years, Stella became an avid golfer at Lingan Golf Club and a loud cheering fan for the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. She was active in her church as a reader and was also a member of the Heritage School House Committee, Dominion. Stella was always very active and deeply enjoyed swimming at the Y.M.C.A. with her many friends. But mostly, Stella will be remembered as a very friendly and compassionate lady.
Stella is survived by her husband, Donald Marks; daughter, Donna (Mary); son, Brian (Daphne); sisters, Angela (Peter Hickey), Theresa (late Frank Gillis), Mary (Andrew Lessing-Turner), Marilyn (Michael Pothier), nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Stella was predeceased by a sister in infancy.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport followed by a reception in the hall then interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. Fr. Dan Boudreau officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
