NEW GLASGOW – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Brian Donald MacLean, 64, on July 24, 2014 at Ivey’s Terrace Nursing Home in Trenton after a brave and courageous battle with cancer.
Brian was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He loved life and adored his family and treasured every moment spent with them.
Brian was raised in Stellarton and was the eldest son of Donald and Ida (MacIvor) MacLean.
Brian was a graduate of the former Pictou Regional Vocational School with diplomas in Mechanical Drafting and Mechanist. He worked in the drafting department at Maritime Steel and Foundries Limited before starting a career at Michelin Tires Canada Limited in February 1971 where he was employed for 42 years. Brian also taught Adult Continuing Education classes in computer for many years. He was a Scout leader for over 30 years. Brian enjoyed spending time in his woodworking shop; he also loved to cook, bake and enjoyed playing golf with his sons. Brian was a member of First United Church in Trenton.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marsha (Jenkins) MacLean; children: Roddie (Amy), Hilden; Stephen (Shelley), Westville; Angela (Steve Taylor), Eastern Passage; Patrick (Shannon), New Glasgow; Brian (Nicole), Cole Harbour; Peter (Lauren Antle), New Glasgow; Bradley, at home; grandchildren: Mason, Karmen, Jacob, Ashton, Scotia, Owen, Brooklyn and Mairi whom he adored; brothers: Gary (Kathy), Trenton; David, Westville; sister, Donna (Philip) Cameron, New Glasgow; sister-in-law, Judith Jenkins, Linacy; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his in-laws Trueman and Grace (Zinck) Jenkins and sister-in-law, Louise (Legere) MacLean.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. A Celebration of Brian’s life will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at First United Church, High Street, Trenton at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dr. J. Kenneth MacLeod officiating, reception in the church hall immediately following the service. Interment will be in Abercrombie Cemetery.
Family flowers only. Donations in Brian’s memory can be given to the First United Church, Trenton or a charity of your choice.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
