Wing Wong

Passed on: July 17th, 2014

Wing Suey Wong of Swift Current, passed away July 17, 2014 at the Cypress Regional Hospital. Wing was born February 8, 1930 in Gong How, China. He is predeceased by his wife, his mother and father and one sister and one brother. He is survived by his five children: Raymond Wong (Jenny); Daughter: Janelle; Linda Tyberg (Richard), Children: Ryan (Kristen); Dustin (Rebecca); Cody; one Great Grandchild: Lukas; Lindy Wong (Ken) Daughters: Jessica and Mikaela; William Wong (Audra) Children: Scott, Kayla and Karli; Linso Neufeld (Kelly) Children: Kristen Wiebe (Craig); Sarah, Melissa, Zachary and numerous nieces and nephews. Wing immigrated to Canada in 1952, where he learned English by correspondence in Vancouver. On March 19, 1952, he was united in marriage to Gin Suey Chow. They resided in Calgary where he worked in numerous restaurants learning all aspects of the business before settling at Andy's Grill. In 1972, he moved from Calgary to Swift Current where he and three other partners purchased Wong's Chop Suey and Confectionary, which they later renamed Golden Gardens. He was a man of few words but always had a smile on his face, therefore he was known to many as "Smiley" and his co-workers knew him as "Little Wing". In 1995, they sold the business at which time he retired. Not one for sitting around too long, he kept himself busy. He journaled every day and loved to cook. He took pride in maintaining and driving his Cadillac. When he was no longer able to drive, he spent a lot of time maintaining his yard, including the City's and the neighbors yards. During the last few months of his life, we gave back to him what he always gave to us, Love, Attention, and Affection. He is sadly missed by his children. A Memorial Service was held Wednesday July 23, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Warren's Funeral Home with Barbara Wiebe officiating. The organist was Arlie Neufeld. The Interment Service took place at Mount Pleasant Burial Park, Swift Current, Sk. In his memory, family has requested donations to be made to the Arthritis Society.
