It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Stephen Marshall Sr., who lost his brief battle with cancer at the Colchester East Hants Health Authority in Truro, N.S. on July 27, 2014.
He was surrounded by his loving family. Stephen was a successful business owner, former Chief and Councillor of the Millbrook First Nation and an advocate of First Nations treaties and rights.
He was well known for his smart wit, sense of humour, generous nature and compassion. Stephen was a huge contributor to his community and always wanted to give back to those in need. He was very proud of his Mi'kmaq heritage and culture.
He will be sadly missed by many friends and family.
Stephen is survived by his loving children, Stephen Marshall Jr. (Susan), Jason Marshall, Jonathan Marshall, Gilbert Brooks and Melanie Sack (Mike); adoring grandchildren, Whitney, Harley, Jordan, Morgan, Charleigh, Brandon, Josiah, Dallas, Ari, Brittany, Paul, Michael, and especially missed by his granddaughter and his best friend, Stephanie Raymond. Great-grandchildren, Hunter, Sequoia, Genika, Grayson, Gevaiya and Jessika. He is also survived by his siblings, Trudy Shea (Robert), Florence Delaney, Frederick Marshall, Alan Sylliboy and Dale Sylliboy; many nieces and nephews, Craig, Bernadette, Teresa, Fred, Karen, Kelly, Joe, Erin, Michael, Rachel, Claire, Rod, Ellen, Pauline, Amy and Darren; as well as many great nieces and nephews.
Stephen was predeceased by his loving wife Debbie, his parents, Rachael and Charlie Marshall, sisters, Nora, Theresa, Mary and Blanche, brother David and grandson, Gib.
Visitation will be held at the house, 96 Abenaki Rd.,Millbrook starting at 2 p.m. July 29, 2014, until the funeral mass Thursday July 31, 2014 at 11 a.m., held at the Sacred Heart Church, Millbrook, N.S. Feast and salite to follow.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Colchester East Hants Health Authority.
The family of Stephen would like to extend a very special thank you to the nursing staff and doctors who showed such compassion and support.
