Mary M Chisholm

Mary M. Chisholm, late of Halifax, Truro and Antigonish, passed away on July 28 at Parkstone Enhanced Care, in Halifax. Born in Heatherton, Antigonish County, on May 24, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Alex A. MacDonald and Jennie E. (Chisholm) MacDonald. She attended school in Heatherton, Bayfield and Mabou, and graduated in 1948 from St. Martha’s School of Nursing in Antigonish.

She nursed in Sainte-Anne–de-Bellevue, Quebec and in Antigonish. Following her marriage to Collie in 1950, she dedicated herself full-time to her family. She was a member of St. Ninian’s parish in Antigonish for 46 years. She and Collie later resided in Halifax until his death in 2007, and she moved to Truro in 2008, where she lived at Parkland Estates and then at Karlaine Place. She and her family were especially grateful to the staff of Karlaine Place. She was a resident of Parkstone Enhanced Care in Halifax since November of 2013.

She is survived by her children, Carmel (Tom Chisholm), Truro, and their daughters, Colene and Kerry; Melvin, Halifax; Deborah Beban, Victoria, BC and her sons, Colin and Eric; her daughter, Faye, of Vancouver, BC and her daughter, Amy Chisholm (Sandy Melitides) of Halifax, NS and their sons, George and Demetri. She is also survived by her sister, Kaye Fraser (late John D.), and her brother Chisholm (Libby) MacDonald, both of Heatherton, NS. and sisters -in-law Florence MacDonald and Marcella MacDonald, both of Heatherton, NS and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, Colin A. (“Collie”) Chisholm, she was predeceased by her brothers, Alan, John and Monsignor Donald MacDonald, her sisters, Anna Tate (late Jim) and Genevieve Chisholm (late Bill), and her son-in-law, Don Beban.

Visitation will be held at MacIsaac Funeral Home, Antigonish, on Thursday at 2-4pm and 7-9pm , Funeral Mass 10 am Friday at St. Ninian’s Cathedral, Antigonish. Rev. Andrew Boyd presiding. Burial will be in St. Ninian’s Cemetery, Antigonish. www.MacIsaacs.ca
