It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beautiful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend Peggy, at home on July 29, 2014, with her loving family at her side.
Born in Sydney, Aug. 14, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Gertrude (Oliver) Tubrett.
Prior to retirement, Peggy worked for 22 years at the former Cape Breton Hospital, where she was president of the CUPE Union for several years. For 44 years, Peggy and Rusty enjoyed life at 39 Rudderham Rd., where they watched their eight children flourish, grow, and continued to enjoy a great life with daughter Trudy and the late Dave Peters, their children Shaun and Megan whom Mom carried a special bond with. Peggy also thoroughly enjoyed the special tea that only Kirk Morrison could make.
Peggy is survived by her eight children, Shannon (Henry) Toner, New Glasgow, Gary, Cold Lake, Robert, Vancouver, Trudy, Sydney, Kelly (Chris) Jones, Alberta, Lori, North Sydney, Cheryl (Robert) Carbno, Alberta, Seana (Ted) Niedzielski, Howie Center. Also 18 grandchildren, Rayann, Ryan, Allyson, Jerri-Lynn, RJ, Tammy, Maggie, Paddy, Katie, Amy, Carley, Dylan, Kaila, Kiel, Melissa, Jane, Joey and Colby, and 10 great-grandchildren, with another one on the way, Baby Peters. She is also survived by a sister Helen (Gerald Aucoin), Dartmouth, and brother Earle (Marg), Ingonish.
She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years William 'Rusty' Keough, brothers, Gorman, Sonny, Bobby, Ed, and infant brother John, and son-in-law Dave Peters.
As per mom’s wishes there will be no visitation. A memorial service in her memory will be held at a later date.
At this time we the family would like to send a special thank you to the doctors, Palliative Care, VON, the workers from the County Homemakers, as well as mom's private care workers that came into our home, who were hands on, and so compassionate with mom's day to day care and needs .We would also like to thank Clayton Murphy, who stood by us, and supported our needs so compassionately during mom's passing. Words cannot express how much this meant to us.
Nan was a woman known for her strengths, strong convictions and always spoke her mind! Home is where the heart is, and for the Keough clan, that was” Cape Breton”. You could always find Nan sitting, or on the phone with all her loved ones around telling their tales of the day. Her kitchen was the heart of the family, and the foundation from which we came. With the parking lot filled, Nan’s house was a 24-hour restaurant, a bar, or a place to lay your weary head after a long day. She had a vivacious sense of humour, full of wit and colorful language (to say the least). A life filled with good friends, neighbours, and a family that knew no boundries. Ever. For us nan will always be our evening star, shiny and brighter than all the rest, leading us home in this life and ever after. Good nite buckaroo!
