It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of our beloved, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend Cecil Mullins. Cecil passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, July 31, 2014, after a two year struggle with cancer.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Pius and Miriam (Littler) Mullins.
Cecil touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity and maintained his sense of humour and kindness all the way to the end.
He loved his wife Mary (nee McIntyre) of 59 years minus one day dearly and truly enjoyed time spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially his true treasure, Krystle of whom they shared many secrets.
Cecil worked 35 years underground in the coal mines until his retirement in 1991.
He will forever be remembered by his family including daughters, Marguerite (Kevin) Wadman, Annapolis Valley, Cathie (Henry) Lloyd, Glace Bay, and Cecil (Gina) Mullins, Dartmouth. He was fondly known as, ‘Poppie’ by his four grandchildren, Cheryl (Kenny) McLean, Curtis (Joanne) Lloyd, Nicole (Dave) Dalton, Krystle Wadman and as “Grampie’ by his six great-grandchildren, Mia, Cody, Ben, Ellie Lloyd and Michael and Jonathan McLean.
Cecil is also survived by sisters, Millie Matthews, N.L., Miriam (Mike) Miclon, California, brothers, Paul and Art (Carol) Mullins of Glace Bay as well as countless other relatives, neighbours and friends who were blessed to have known him. Cecil is survived by his only living uncle, Art (Margie) Littler as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, son, Joseph, granddaughter, Mary Ann Wadman in infancy, brothers, John, Pius, Robert and a sister, Bessie Gerard.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-6 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home ,16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass officiated by Rev. Norman McPhee is Monday at 11 a.m. in Holy Cross church followed directly by a reception in the church hall. Interment to follow in the parish cemetery.
Family flowers only. Donations in Cecil’s memory can be made to the Palliative Care Unit, CBRH..
