JOHN “ROGER” MACKIN
January 25, 1925 – August 19, 2014
We are saddened to announce the passing of Roger Mackin on Tuesday August 19, 2014. Roger is predeceased by parents Helen and Robert, and three brothers Ashley, Doug and Bing. He will be sadly missed by the love of his life, Dolly (41 years); their children: Doug (Heather), Greg (Janice), and Tracey; grandchildren: Ashley and Kyle, Amy and Alex, and special great-granddaughter Emma; brothers Bill (Evy), and Dave; and sisters Rachael and Virginia. Roger lived a full life. He is a WWII Veteran, having joined the Army in 1942 to serve his country. After working in the oilfields out west he returned to further his education – he was the first teacher in Moose Jaw to have both his Teaching degree and his Industrial Arts degree. Roger spent many years teaching and retired from his successful career at Riverview in 1984. After retiring he began restoring aircraft at the Western Development Museum, and continued to do so for over 25 years. During Roger’s busy teaching career he was actively involved in Scouts as a Scouter, and earned his way up the ranks to become a Commissionaire of Scouts Canada. He was a pilot and owned a 4-seater Cesna. He enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, canoeing, camping, snowshoeing, and much more. Roger’s greatest passion was reading, often finishing 2-4 books per week. Roger will always be loved and missed, but never forgotten. A Celebration of Roger’s life will be held at W.J.Jones & Son Chapel on Tuesday August 26, 2014 at 1:30 pm. Reverend Jim Tenford will officiate. Royal Canadian Legion Rites will be conducted by Sharon Erickson at the Chapel. Interment will take place at Rosedale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Western Development Museum, or the Sask. Association for Community Living. In living memory of Roger, a memorial planting will be made by W.J. Jones & Son Funeral Home. Please sign the memorial register at website: www.wjjonesandson.com (Obituaries).
