Pat Spurles

Spurles, Pat
Dec. 18, 1924 – Aug. 23, 2014
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Pat Spurles, who passed away peacefully on August 23 at Sackville Memorial Hospital with her family by her side. Pat was a devoted wife to her husband of forty-nine years Doug, who predeceased her in 2003. She was also a loving mother and grandmother and a devote Catholic whose strong faith and belief in the afterlife saw her through any difficulties. Her quick wit and dry sense of humour were appreciated by all, as was her warmth, generosity and positive outlook. Her love for her family, and especially her grandchildren Peter and Anna, kept her happy and active as she grew older. She was always supportive and loving of her children, who have always felt fortunate to have her as their mother, and who will always miss her. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, camping, playing cards with other seniors, and watching her favorite shows. She was a happy resident of Fredericton and Murray Ave. for almost fifty years before moving to be close to her grandchildren in Sackville.
Born in Chatham, NB on December 18, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Maria (Cripps) Phee. Patricia retired as a switchboard operator for CFB Gagetown. She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Spurles of Sackville; sons, Alphee Spurles of Toronto, and Ronald Kelly Spurles (Patricia) of Sackville; grandchildren, Peter and Anna Kelly Spurles; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, Patricia was predeceased by her sisters, Phyllis McArthy, Nora Halman, Jennie Flanagan, Lillian King, Bertha O’Brien, Margaret Hay, Marie MacDonald, and Ida Ramsey; and brothers, Lester Phee and Alexander Phee.
Visitation took place Monday, August 25, 2014 at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Memorial Mass was held at St. Anthony’s Church on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at 11 am with Father Monte Peters as celebrant. Interment will take place at St. Anthony’s Cemetery. For those who wish remembrances may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com. The family would like to thank the Sackville Red Cross workers, the Sackville Seniors' Club, the staff of the Drew Nursing Home, Sackville Memorial Hospital, and all of those who knew and cared for Pat over the years.
There will be a gathering to remember Pat’s life at 30 Squire Street, Sackville, NB on Friday, August 29, 2014 from 6-8 pm.
