Doctor Robert Bruce Little age 89 of Swift Current, Saskatchewan passed away Sunday, August 17, 2014 after a short illness. The funeral service was held at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church with Pastor Jonathon Kwan officiating. The eulogy was delivery by Bob's grandchildren.
The interment service was held at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Swift Current. The active pallbearers were Jeffrey Little (Grandson), Christopher vanDuyvendyk (Grandson), Jakob Weibe (nephew), Reg Derksen (nephew), Russell Hansen (nephew), and Matthew Derksen (nephew).
Bob is survived by his wife of 59 years, Eva V. (Derksen) Little, daughter Leslie (Arie Jr.) vanDuyvendyk, sons Ronald (Donna) Little, and Robert Jr. (Tara) Little, grandchildren Jeffrey (Clara) Little, Mandy Little, Christopher vanDuyvendyk, Brianna vanDuyvendyk, and Roman Little, and great-grandchildren, Aron Little and John Little.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Myra Little, Uncles Eddie Faukes, Mark Bayston, Herbie Little, and Harvey Little as well as aunts Mary Faukes and Betty Bayston.
Bob graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (Honors) and received his medical degree at McGill University in Montreal in 1953. He practiced medicine in Saskatoon and Winnipeg. In 1963, he came to Swift Current and established his radiology practice at the Swift Current Union Hospital. He was a member of the Saskatchewan Council of the College of Physician and Surgeons for 7 years, and served as President in 1972. Dr. Bob practiced medicine for 49 years.
Bob was also very active within the community. He was an Elder of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church since 1965. Bob was also a member of the Kinsmen and K-40 service clubs. Later in life, he became a member of the Masons. He achieved the rank of Grand First Principle of the Royal Arch Masons for Saskatchewan.
Bob was a passionate learner all his life. He was a voracious reader and loved to study history. Bob had a keen mind and enjoyed a good debate on any topic whether with family or his coffee row friends. Bob would delight in taking either side of the argument with equal knowledge and passion.
Dr. Bob was an ultrasound pioneer in the Southwest. Bob, along with many of his peers such as Noble Irwin, were instrumental in ensuring that Southwestern Saskatchewan acquired state of the art medical diagnostic equipment. We are excited to learn that the Foundation is raising funds for ultrasound diagnostic equipment to be used in the detection of prostate cancer.
