James Peter "Noel" Wilson

OPEI (Order of Prince Edward Island)
Peacefully, and surrounded by love and joy, the death occurred on Monday, August 25, 2014, at the Kings County Memorial Hospital of James Peter “Noel” Wilson, in his 87th year.
Beloved husband of Helen (nee MacEachern), and loving and joyful father “Daddy” of Paula Wilson-Walsh (Pius), Suzanne Carr (Jim), Jane Wilson and Mark Wilson. Loving grandfather (Ba) (Grampie) of Sam and Jed Walsh and Emily Jane and Alison Carr. Also survived by his loving sister, Frances Beazley, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by parents, Albert and Jennie (nee Lonergan) Wilson; brothers, Dr. Albert Wilson (Josephine (nee Brown)), Lte. Edward (Ted) Wilson; and sister, Eileen (Disa) Wilson; as well as numerous brothers and sisters-in-law from the MacEachern family.
Born in Charlottetown, P.E.I., Noel graduated from St. Dunstan’s. A great athlete and sports enthusiast, Noel played with the ‘Rugby Nomads’ while at St. Dunstan’s and enjoyed hockey, tennis, swimming and loved a good game of table tennis with his sister, Fran. He was also part of the original planning group in the creation of the Brudenell golf course.
On September 5, 1955, Noel and Helen married. They lived in Charlottetown and later settled in Cardigan, P.E.I., to raise their four children. Noel was employed by the Canadian National Railway and was Station Master in Charlottetown, Cardigan and Souris. After working for CNR for 38 years he retired from CNR in 1983.
Noel dedicated his life to voluntary endeavors. His enthusiasm and vision have served to improve and develop the village of Cardigan and surrounding communities. Noel always believed in doing what you can to make the world a better place. In his own words “our world is made up of many communities and it is with community it all begins.”
Noel served on the Cardigan Village Council for 28 years and all but two of those years as Council Chairperson. Many called him the “Mayor” of Cardigan. He served on the Executive of the P.E.I. Federation of Municipalities for 18 years, Canadian Parks and Recreation for 12 years, many years on the Cardigan Recreation Committee, Community and Correctional Services, Lions Club member, Knights of Columbus (fourth degree) and as a United Way co-ordinator. He also served as a volunteer fireman, Red Cross Summer Swimming Co-ordinator and, in the early years, the “flooder and stove stoker” for the Cardigan Outdoor Rink.
Always quick with a smile, Noel could warm up a room with his signature laugh and joyful disposition. He always made people feel welcome especially with his solid handshake.
You will be deeply missed Noel “Daddy”, by family and friends.
