Noah Russell

Noah Franklyn Russell arrived in this world on Wednesday, August 9, 1989, much to the delight of all his family. He left us far too soon on Sunday, August 24, 2014, as a result of a motor vehicle accident. Noah packed a lot of life into the scant 25 years he was allotted. After graduating from Pictou Academy in 2007, he attended St. FX University, where he played rugby. All the while, Noah fished lobster, herring, and tuna with his father. More recently, he balanced his fishing career with working on the oil rigs in Alberta. Noah loved to work but he also loved to play. He loved sports, especially hockey, soccer, and golf. He loved all aspects of sports – playing, spectating, and analyzing statistics. He cherished his friends and never missed an opportunity to share good times with them – travelling, attending concerts, and Pictou Island parties. He certainly cherished Pictou Island where all his childhood summers were spent biking, swimming, and playing with friends. He recently acquired his own property on Pictou Island and was looking forward to clearing his land and building his own place. Above all else, Noah loved to laugh. His smiles and laughs brought joy to his family for the past 25 years, for which we are truly grateful.
He will be sorely missed by all who loved him – his father and mother, Jim Russell and Margo Watt; his sister, Hayley Russell; his grandmother, Doretta Russell; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He will be missed by his good friends, perhaps none more so than Emelyne Marshall, with whom he shared a special bond.
Noah was predeceased by his grandparents: Harold Russell, Lawrence and Isabel Watt.
Growing up, Noah enjoyed all the benefits of having an extended family living close by and he was definitely the apple of Isabel’s eye.
Noah’s passing will be marked by a service at the First Presbyterian Church, Pictou on Thursday August 28 at 2 p.m. From there, he will join his grandparents in Seaview Cemetery, with his ashes to be brought to Pictou Island at a later date.
Visitation will be held in the McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou on Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. On Noah’s behalf, we request that donations be given to charities that facilitate kids’ participation in sports, such as Canadian Tire Jumpstart.
