Clairemarie Haley

It is with great devastation that we announce the passing of Clairemarie Haley on August 25th, 2014 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre.
She was the only child of the late John J. and Ellen Haley, originally of Glace Bay, NS and then of Amherst.
Clairemarie was a graduate of Dalhousie University with degrees in theater and education. She started her acting career tap dancing on Police Chief Farnell’s desk for a nickel a dance. Her life passion was acting and she performed in numerous live theater productions, as well as several television and radio shows. She was involved in producing and directing plays and had the opportunity to sing with Deny Doherty of the Mamas and Papas, who was a dear friend. She taught youth acting classes, had a beautiful singing voice, enjoyed playing piano and was an avid reader – her books were her home. She loved to gather her friends around the kitchen table for tea and would wrap them in laughter, sometimes until dawn. Clairemarie was larger than life itself. She was very involved in her community, working with the disabled and doing volunteer work for several organizations including: the first female President of the VON in Amherst, fund-raised for the Accessible playground on Beacon Street, helped out annually with Christmas for Kids. Clairemarie was an animal activist and would rescue dogs from Halifax to Amherst. As part of this charity work, she produced and directed a play with all proceeds going to the LA Animal Shelter.
She leaves behind her loving partner of 25 years, Fran Wilson.
A celebration of life will be held at Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St, Amherst on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2014 starting a 2 p.m. facilitated by Lawry McLeod.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LA Animal Shelter or the VON.
Many thanks to the hospital staff and the VON (especially Michelle Long) who provided care, the many friends who came and played music or read to her and the ongoing support from Mental Health. Hats off to my Miss Haley.
Online condolences and sharing of memories may be made to her family via: www.campbellsamherst.ca
