John Zabolotney passed away on Monday, September 8, 2014 at the age of 91. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Sophie. His three children: Rennie (Marty) and their children, Steve (Laurel) and 4 great grandchildren, Karis, Bonnie (Buzz) and their children, Tibi (Esther) and Alex, Sandy (Wayne) and their children Chris (Karla), Jeff (Carmelle) and 2 great grandchildren, Sara (Jory). John was born near Viceroy SK on April 9th, 1923. He was the youngest and last survivor of 8 siblings born to Zay and Nellie Zabolotney. John attended Middle Valley School and met and later married Sophie Frentz from Ormiston SK. They settled on their farm in the Middle Valley District and mixed farmed for about 50 years. In addition to farming, John operated a mechanics garage and bulk fuel business. They then moved to Moose Jaw in 1995 where he was employed by the Alliance Church as their custodian. John was very musical and played a number of instruments. He continued to play the mouth organ and entertain us to the end.
He enjoyed rodeos, camping, fishing and spending time at the cottage at Buffalo Pound. He loved his family deeply and always took time for others. He was known for always having a good cup of coffee and interactions with family, friends and acquaintances. A special thank you to the staff at Providence Place for the care and attention both provided to John and Sophie while he was a resident. A special thanks to Dr. Rininsland for the care provided.
The Funeral Service will be held at Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane, Moose Jaw SK on Friday, September 12, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. Pastor Bill Luther will officiate. Private family interment will follow. Donations are gratefully accepted to the Child Evangelism Fellowship 74 Marquis Crescent, Regina, SK S4S 6J9.
