CROSBY, Irma Lee – 100, Sunset Terrace, Yarmouth, formerly of Wellington, Yarmouth Co., passed away peacefully after a long and healthy life, on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born May 3, 1914 in Lake George, she was a daughter of the late Judson and Alma (Crosby) Winter. Irma was a homemaker. She will be remembered as being the epitome of grit, and in whose life animals played a large part. She enjoyed working in her flower gardens and was an avid reader, but the thing that brought the most joy to her life was cooking and entertaining for family and friends. She was a very community-minded woman who was involved with numerous organizations including, The Canadian Red Cross, the Wellington Lamplighters and the Womens’ Institute of Nova Scotia. Irma is survived by her children, Joyce (Francis) Cook, Merrickville-Wolford, ON; Douglas Crosby, Yarmouth and Gary (Carol) Crosby, Wellington, as well as by grandchildren, Wanda, Tom, Niska, Shannon, Cara and Lauren; great-grandchildren, Alex, Russell, Julia, Luke, Liam, Jocelyne and Rilynn. Aside from her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Frank Donald Crosby, as well as by brothers Eugene and Malcolm Winter; sisters, Hazel Reid, Marion Goudey, Evelyn Gray and Stella Winter, and her many beloved pets. The family would like to send a very special thanks to Dr. Tom Muise, as well as to the nursing staff on 4-South at the Yarmouth Hospital for the compassionate and loving care given to Irma. In accordance with Irma’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yarmouth, and there was no visitation. A graveside memorial service and interment were held at 11 a.m., Monday, September 15 at the Lake George Cemetery, Rev. A. D. “Bill” Newell officiated. Memorial donations may be made to the Yarmouth SPCA or to the Hope for Wildlife Society.
