Lorraine L.  Slighter

Lorraine L. Slighter, 89, of Albany, NY, (formerly of Hoags Corners), went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 4, 2014, following a brief illness.
Born in Midgic, New Brunswick, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Clara Beal Troop. She was raised and educated in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, graduating from Amherst High School, and then from Acadia University in Wolfville in 1946. She later earned her Dietician License in Boston, MA.
In 1947, Lorraine married Ralph Garfield “Gary” Slighter and they began their 67 years of marriage, and raising a family.
Lorraine was a member of the Loudonville Community Church, where she served in various areas of ministry, including the Hannah Circle and as a trustee of the church. She was also active in the Women’s Legislative Forum of NYS and the Rensselaer County Historical Society.
In addition to her husband, Gary, she is survived by three daughters: Alysan Slighter of Troy, NY, Heather Byrne of Manassas, VA, and Pam Slighter of Brooklyn, NY; two sons: Ralph G. Slighter III of Dale City, VA and Timothy T. Slighter of Chelmsford, MA; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Ivan Troop.
Friends were invited to attend the funeral service on Tuesday afternoon, September 9, 2014 at 1 P.M. to the Loudonville Community Church, 374 Loudon Road (Route 9 and Crumitie Road), Loudonville, NY 12211, where the Rev. Dr. Paul Beck, Pastor, officiated.
The interment was in Hoags Corners Cemetery, Nassau, NY, immediately following.
The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, contributions in memory or Lorraine be made to the Rensselaer County Historical Society, 57 Second Street, Troy, NY 12180 or Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center, 180 Washington Avenue Extension, Albany, NY 12203.
