It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Isabell (MacKinnon) Hollingsworth, age 87, on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014. She passed away peacefully with her loving family all around her at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late Archie and Maggie MacKinnon.
For most of her life she took pride in being a loving wife and mom. Her heart and home were always open She was employed by National Sea Fisheries for nine years. She enjoyed her cabin, card club, swimming, dancing, sewing, baking and in recent years her family at the Sydney Mines Seniors’ Club, where she looked forward to her Saturday night dances.
God gave mom a special gift of music at an early age. Her singing talents were enjoyed by all who knew her. She had the voice of an angel.
Predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years, Murdock; infant daughter, Adele; parents, Archie and Maggie MacKinnon; sister, Iris; brothers, Bobby, Ernie and Johnny.
Surviving are daughters, Marsha (Tom) Courage, Heather Lonsdale, Melissa (Shawn) Whelan; brothers, Archie (Patsy) MacKinnon, Gordon (Carol) MacKinnon; grandchildren, Murdock, Adele, Maggie, Adam, Breagh and Michaela; great-grandchildren, Alex, Brody, Drake, Keegan; many special nieces and nephews and Darrell Clarke, who was like a son to mom and dad.
Special thanks to Dr. Michelle McKeough for all his years of special care and kindness and the staff of the 4th floor of the Northside General Hospital.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service for both mom and dad, together again as they longed to be, will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 15, 2014 at St. Giles Presbyterian Church with Rev. Richie Robinson officiating. Interment to take place at a later date.
Donations in memory may be made to St. Giles Presbyterian Church, The Children's Wish Foundation or a charity of one's choice.
