V. Joan Baird

BAIRD (nee Murray), V. Joan - 76 of Onslow, passed away Saturday September 13th, 2014, at the Colchester East Health Centre, surrounded by the love of all her family. Born in Antigonish, she was the daughter of the late Earle and Lena (Pye) Murray. Joan was instrumental in the formation of the Clan Baird Society of Atlantic Canada of which she was a member. She compiled and published the genealogy of the Baird Family and started on the Pye family of whom she was very proud. Joan was a member of the Antique Farm Museum and assisted Page in collecting artifacts. Her passions were her grandchildren, quilting, knitting, reading and puzzles. She was very well known for her quilts. She was the owner/operator of Bairds Greenhouses and then employed with Carlton Cards for several years. She was a member of the Onslow U.C.W., and a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Page. Children: Anne (Allan) Beal, Fort St. John, BC; Jamey (Connie), Clifton; Philip, Masstown; Scott (Janet), Truro; Margaret (Brad) Fiddes, Lower Onslow. Grandchildren: Sarah (Corey), Tyler (Chelsea), Jessica (Jake), Michael (Erika), Allison (Nick), Colby, Devon and Benjamin. Great-grandchildren: Emily, Lyla, Brayden, Wyatt and Marla and one on the way. Sister: Margaret Geldart, Truro. She was predeceased by sisters: Pauline Marshall and Vera McCabe and Great-grandson, Carter. Funeral service will be held 2 PM, Thursday, September 18th, at the Immanuel Baptist Church, 295 Young St., Truro, Pastor Kaj Binderup. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Reception to follow at the church. Interment will be in the Robie St. Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Lung Association.
