Effie Louise Behie
(of Truro and Sheet Harbour)
Sept. 18, 1907 – Sept. 17, 2014

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Effie Louise Behie at the wonderful age of 106, and just one day before her 107th birthday, at Harbourview Lodge Continuing Care Centre in Sheet Harbour, following a brief illness.
Born September 18, 1907, in Lower Watt Section, Sheet Harbour, Effie was the second youngest daughter of Enos Levi Harnish and Emily Grace (Wamboldt) Harnish, and the last surviving member of her family.
Married in December 1937 to Norman Behie, Effie lived in Sheet Harbour for most of her life where she and Norman operated the Community General Store. Norman was Past Master of Eureka Lodge #42 and both were members of the Order of the Eastern Star, one of the largest fraternal organizations in the world to which men and women belong. The Order is dedicated to charity, truth and loving kindness and Effie exemplified these qualities. Friends will always remember Norman and Effie for their love for each other and their love of dancing and entertaining friends. Effie was often asked about her secret to longevity and would reply that she worked hard and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Effie was a Charter Member of Maple Leaf Chapter #23, Sheet Harbour and Life Member of Myrtle Chapter #21, Truro, NS. She served in many offices, including Conductress, Associate Matron, Worthy Matron, Sentinel, Electa, Warder, Grand Electa, Grand Representative of Ohio in NS and PEI and held the office of Ruth to the age of 101. Effie was an active member and most recently attended Grand Chapter Sessions held in Stellarton, NS, July 2014, where she was honored for her 67 year membership. She was a life member of St. James United Church and a member of Florence Unit U.C.W.
Effie was predeceased by her parents, husband Norman, sisters Stella Grace (Allan) Hunt, May Victoria (Percy) Boutilier, Maude(Lawrence)Pace, Eva(Charlie) Kenzler, Susie(Gordon) Westhaver, brothers William, Harry(twin to May), Lawrence and Oswald.
Visitation Saturday, September 20, 2014, 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at DS Crowell & Son Funeral Home, Sheet Harbour.
