Born in Glace Bay on Aug. 29, 1930, John was the son of the late Angus and Mary Ann (McDonald) McAulay, and was a member of Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay.
John worked for many years for Burke and Chiasson in Glace Bay. Upon retiring John enjoyed the active sport of jogging each morning and spent many hours gardening, ice-skating and reading. John was so blessed with a quick wit and sense of humour that will be missed by many but remembered by all. His love for his New York Yankees and his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs shined bright each day with his signature ball caps he faithfully wore.
John who was affectionately known as “Papa” will be greatly missed by his children: son, Blaine McAulay (Sheila), Glace Bay; daughters, Darlene (Wayne) Elliott, Middleton, Ginny (Byron) Donovan, Truro, Louise (Donald) Gillis, Grand Mira; loving sister, Theresa Dort, Glace Bay. John will also be fondly remembered by nieces, nephews and friends.
Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his wife, Margaret Ann (Ferguson); daughter, Deborah Ann McAulay and sister, Virginia Grady.
We would like to thank the staff of Alderwood Rest Home for all their care and support during his time spent there.
In accordance with John’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral mass. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
