Lorna Kathleen Ward, 94 of Swift Current passed away September 19, 2014 at Cypress Regional Hospital. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 26, 2014 from First United Church with Reverend Annette Taylor officiating. The organist will be Joan Williamson, the eulogist, Shirley Wilson and the tribute will be given by granddaughter Emily Jones. Great granddaughter, Bronwen Grocott will be the violin soloist. Ushers will be Gordon Lightfoot, Stewart Wells, Brian Unger, and Jim Linklater. The interment service will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery. The pallbearers will be grandsons Bruce Baumann, Miles Berg, Adam Ward, Thomas Piller, Brett Ward, and great grandson Max Baumann. Lorna is survived by her children: Grace Berg (Abe), Carol Baumann (Frank), Glen Ward (Kaye), Murray Ward (Dorothy), and Kathy Piller (Phil); granddchildren: Shivaun (Hilary), Miles (Ava), Ellyn, Bruce (Michelle), Vivian, Kim (Greg), Ashley, Jamie (Arlene), Perry, Emily (Matt), Adam, Amanda, Brett, Thomas, and Taylor; great grandchildren: Bronwen, Jane, Alekcia, Aida, Max, Cassidy, Kacey, Sydnie, and Eva; sister Edith Rowan; brother-in-law Colin Ward; and sister-in-law Joyce Ward. Lorna was predeceased by husband Ken Ward; her parents Al and Lil Watt; parent-in-law Arthur and Emily Ward; sister Vina Hanson; sister-in-law Doris Gordon; brothers-in-laws Alex Hanson and Lloyd Rowan; and special friend and fellow traveller Dick Buck. Lorna attended school at Rodrickville and Cutbank schools. She also attended SIAST and received a Certified Nursing Assistant diploma at the age of 49. She worked for 6 and a half years at the Swift Current Union Hospital on the maternity ward. For a large part of her life, she farmed together with her husband Ken whom she married on March 20, 1941. Lorna was an active member of the Burnham Community Club and the Frontier Days Family Fair and Horticulture Committees. She was a lifetime member of the Woman's Institute (Homemakers). She was also Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star. Lorna founded the Burnham 4-H Club in 1956 and was its first General Leader. She also represented the R.M. of Coulée and was on the founding board of Wheatland Home Care. Lorna's sporting interests were softball, curling, and shuffleboard. She loved to knit, do needlework, garden, flower arrange, do ceramics and stain glass work. She enjoyed a game of double solitaire, tile rummy, or doing crossword puzzles. Later in life she travelled extensively to Alaska, China, Australia, and even rode an elephant in Thailand in her 80's. For nearly 30 years, she spent her winters at Venture Out Trailer Park in sunny Mesa, Arizona where she rarely missed her water exercises or happy hour. The family would like to thank the staff of the Prairie Pioneer Lodge for their loving care over the past two years.
