The Pittsburgh Steelers have lost one of their greatest fans, Wayne Reno, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
Wayne passed away on Monday, Sept. 22, 2014, at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in North Sydney, he was the son of the late Albert and Kathleen (Dunphy) Reno.
Wayne had been employed with National Sea Products in North Sydney for over 20 years.
Wayne was an avid sports fan, and was passionate about football and harness racing in particular. He was famous for hosting his Super Bowl gatherings and was a familiar face at Northside Downs.
He enjoyed bowling and playing cards with friends and spending quality time with his family and extended family.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis (Spicer) Reno; by his daughter, Stacey (Todd) Carey and his son, Joe, both of North Sydney; by his three grandchildren, Lyndon Quirk, Nolan and Brylee Carey; his brother, Earl (Sandra) Reno, of N.B.; his sister, Clare Reno of North Sydney; brothers-in-law, Roy Shepherd, Freeman (Louise) Spicer, Alex (Avalene) Spicer, all of North Sydney; nephews and nieces, Paul, Stewart and Angela Shepherd, Blair and Rhonda Spicer, Phyllis, Paula, Leslie and Tara Spicer, Dawnise and Darlene Carter and their families, as well as his extended family, the Carters.
He was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Joan Shepherd, his mother-in-law, Flora Taylor and brother-in-law, Terry Taylor.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the VON and Palliative Care, especially Cathy MacMillan for the care and compassion show to Wayne during his illness.
Visitation for Wayne will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service will take place 3 p.m. Thursday, from St. John The Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Glen Kent officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
Family flowers only by request. Memorial donations may be made to the N.S. Lung Association or any charity.
