MASON, Dorothy Maye - age 97 of Springfield/Halifax, NS passed away peacefully at Parkstone Enhanced Care on Tuesday, September 23, 2014. Born in Digby, NS, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Alberta (Ellis) Dunn. Dorothy received her education in Digby and business training in Yarmouth. She led an interesting life travelling with her husband all over Nova Scotia and Cape Breton. Dorothy was a faithful member of several Rebekah Lodges; include Zelma in Digby, Unity in Annapolis Royal, Linden in Springfield, Myrtle in Middleton and Valley Rose in Lawrencetown. Dorothy received her 70 year Veteran’s Jewel and the Decoration of Chivalry from the Rebekah Assembly. She was the church organist for 25 years at Springfield United Baptist Church and received a Dominion Life Membership Certificate for the Baptist Women’s Missionary Society while living in Middleton. Dorothy is survived by daughters Beula (John Rasmussen), Jean (Bill Romkey), Shirley (Gerald Mullen), Louise Mader and Valerie (Warren Meisner); eleven grandchildren and three step-granddaughters; twenty- two great grandchildren and four step-great grandchildren. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Robert; brother Eustace; grandson Stephen Mader; sons-in-law Arthur Mader and Keith Mossman. Visitation was held Friday September 26, 2014 at the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St. (902) 825-3448 with a Rebekah Lodge tribute conducted by the Myrtle Rebekah Lodge No.46. A funeral service was held Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Springfield United Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Smith officiating. Interment will be at the Springfield Cemetery. By request, family flowers only. Donations in Dorothy’s memory may be made to the Springfield United Baptist Church, Springfield Cemetery Fund, St. Eudora Rebekah Lodge or a charity of choice.
