John James Symes "Jack" Sterling

STERLING, John James Symes “Jack”, CD – 80, Belmont, passed away peacefully, Wednesday morning, October 1, 2014, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born December 4, 1933, in Vancouver, British Columbia, he was the son of the late James and Dorothy (Knowles) Sterling. Jack served with Royal Canadian Artillery for more than 20 years and had three tours with NATO and one tour in Korea. He was Instructor of Survey and Assistant Chief Instructor, RCA Depot, and plant manager at Casey Concrete for 20 years. Jack was Past President and life-member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Truro, life-member of Blue Helmets, member of Canadian Association of Veterans in United Nations Peacekeeping, Charter Member of NATO Veterans Organization and member of KVA Unit 45. Jack is survived by his wife, Micheline (Carle); sons, James (Kelley), Shaun; daughter, Debra; step-children, Patrick Gibson, Andre Gibson, Christine (Clarence) Rout; grandchildren, John, Elizabeth, Justin, Ashliegh, William; step-grandchildren, Jonathan (Sandra), Yvette, David; four great grandchildren; one step great grandson; step-brothers, George (Melba), Daniel Bolt; step-sister, Donna McKee. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Carol Jean (Maynard). Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, will conduct a Legion Tribute Service at 7 p.m., Monday, October 6, 2014. All are welcome to attend and a reception will follow in the funeral home. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Jack’s memory to Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26 (Poppy Fund), NATO Veterans Organization or a charity of choice are welcomed.
