Sheila Elinor Sanford

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Sheila Elinor Sanford of Amherst, on October 10, 2014. She passed away in the comfort of her own home and with family by her side. Born March 11, 1922 in Batu Gajah, Perak, Malaysia, she was a daughter of the late Harry Warner and Annie Laurie (Patrick) Humphrys.
Having lived in Malaysia, England, and Ireland, her childhood years were spent in Waskatenau, near the North Saskatchewan River, Alberta, until the family returned to England. Sheila worked at Whitehall in the Air Ministry from 1940–1946. In the course of the War she met Dean Albert Sanford and she eventually travelled again to Canada, this time to marry Dean in 1947. Throughout her long life she maintained her strong love for family, friends, travel, animals, nature, and a good cup of tea.
Sheila was a faithful member of Christ Church, Amherst and a member of the ACW. She was also an active member of the Lord Amherst Chapter IODE, Trefoil Guild, and the Bobbins & Baymist Quilters.
Sheila will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Sheila Jane and Nancy both of Amherst; sons, Norman and Robert both of Halifax; son-in-law, David Milner; daughters-in-law Sandy and Elaine; 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Shirley Humphrys of Rupununi, Guyana; as well as, niece, Yvonne Allen of Ottawa; nephews, John Allen of Montreal and David Humphrys of London, England; and, extended family. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was predeceased by her husband, Dean; brother, Bazell Humphrys; son-in-law, Marshall Landry, and close friend Ron Roach.
There will be no visitation prior to the funeral service which will be held on Monday, October 20, 2014 at 2pm at Christ Church, Amherst, with Archdeacon Glenn Eason officiating. Reception to follow in the Parish Hall. Interment will take place in the Christ Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Sheila’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
