Basil Alyre Gallant

The death occurred peacefully, with family at his side, at the Palliative Care Unit, Charlottetown, on Monday, October 20, 2014, of Basil Gallant, aged 76, beloved husband of Jacqueline Gallant, of North Rustico.
Basil was the father of Michelyn (Jon), Marc (Doreen) and Michael (Holly); grandfather of Olivia and Marcus Putignano; and Alexandria and Gavin Gallant; and great-grandfather of Keira. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Oswald (Marion), Charles "Buddy" (Ann), Gertrude Leclair (Armand), Douglas (Anne), Geraldine Gauthier (Gerard), Harold (Cathy), Michael (Patricia), Garnett, Dennis (Susan) and Joanne Gallant (Roland); brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenny Gallant (Anne), Audrey LeClair (Ed), Allison Gallant (Phyllis), Sister Phyllis Gallant, Derrill Gallant (Jane), and Gavin Gallant (Joan); and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Alyre and Maud (Blacquiere) Gallant; infant brothers, Douglas and Wendall; and brother-in-law, Marc Gallant.
Basil spent his working life in Ontario as a professional civil engineer. He and Jacqueline and their family spent their summers on P.E.I., and retired here in 2003.
The family would like to express thanks to all the Home Care nurses and staff at Palliative Care.
Resting at Central Queen's Funeral Home, 2538 Glasgow Road, New Glasgow, for visitation on Wednesday, October 22, 2014, from 5-9 p.m. The Knights of Columbus will hold a prayer service at the funeral home on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, North Rustico, on Thursday, October 23, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. Interment in Stella Maris Cemetery. Due to severe allergies, please refrain from wearing scented products.
