Doreen Greensides

Greensides, Doreen

Doreen passed away peacefully on October 20, 2014 at Pioneers Lodge in Moose Jaw, SK. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Marvin (1997), and by her infant daughter Marla. Loving mother of Kathy Wheatley, Kevin (Shelley), Kirk (Shirley), Blair (Shelanie), Judy, and Jeff Selzer (Linda). Cherished grandmother of Dustin, Laura, Michael, Skye, Samantha, Kayne, Stacee, Kara, Kyle, and Kianna and her great-grandchildren Emalia and Max. She is survived by her sisters Audrey Lowe and Lenore Watson, and by many nieces, nephews and friends. She is predeceased by her brothers, Kenneth and Russell, and by her sister Joyce. Doreen was born to Kirby and Marion Carter on the family farm near Assiniboia, SK on July 4, 1932. As a youngster she was an excellent marksman. She often contributed to the reduction of the gopher population on the farm, rarely missing a shot. She grew up attending school in Assiniboia, and married her high school sweetheart, Marvin in 1952. The young couple moved to Moose Jaw where Doreen worked at the Royal Bank and the Bank of Montreal until the arrival of their first child Kathy. She then chose to dedicate her life to raising her children. In 1973, she and her husband opened Marv’s Subway Texaco Station on Manitoba St. She looked after the accounting and books until her retirement in 1988 when Texaco left Canada. She and Marv enjoyed trail riding once their kids grew older, although Doreen was always the better rider. She enjoyed her home and flower beds on Duffield Crescent, but by far her passion was spending time with her family. After Marvin’s passing in 1997, she enjoyed her trips to the Coast to visit with her sister Lenore and to Ontario to visit her children and grandchildren. She moved to High Park Towers in 2012, where she resided until health concerns prompted a move to Pioneers Lodge in September of 2014. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 24, 2014 at Parkview Funeral Chapel, 474 Hochelaga St. W, Moose Jaw, SK, followed by an interment at Rosedale Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined in lieu of donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre St., Regina, SK, S4P 2R3. Blair & Kelly Scott, Funeral Directors. (306) 694-5500.
