Isabel Ann (Hunt) Levy

Born In: Louisbourg

Passed in: Sydney
Passed on: October 20th, 2014

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Isabel Levy at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit, on Oct. 20, 2014, after a strong and unrelenting battle with cancer.
Born in Louisbourg, but resided in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Minnie (McCuish) Hunt.
Isabel attended Cape Breton Business College, and after graduation worked at the Registry of Motor Vehicles in Sydney. Then she continued her working career with Parks Canada, at the Fortress of Louisbourg, first as a tour guide, then going on to become a secretary. Later in life, Isabel continued her clerical role at the Human Resource Department Canada, in Sydney.
Isabel was a Pipe Major with the Gaelic College pipe band in her youth. She played women’s slo-pitch baseball, with the Louisbourg Eagles, which was one of her passions; Isabel led the team to victory, which guaranteed them a spot in the provincial slo-pitch tournament two years in a row. She also ran a badminton league in Louisbourg, and was active in the sport of curling. She took great appreciation for the simple things in life, her children, going out and socializing, reading, walking on the beach, also had a great love for animals. One of her greatest experiences was a train trip she took across Canada by herself showing off the independent woman she was. In 1967 she attended the Montreal Expo, one of her favourite vacations.
Left to mourn are her children, Janice (Frank Aucoin) Levy, Sydney, Robert (Ellie) Levy, Louisbourg; grandchildren, Dustin and Gabriel Levy; siblings, Katherine Haugan, California, Allison Hunt, Louisbourg; also brother-in-law, Keith Dunn, Ontario; sister-in-law, Dorothy Hunt,Ontario.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, Jimmy Hunt, Mae Dunn, and Sandy Hunt.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 24, 2014 in the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, Sydney. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014 at The First United Church, Louisbourg, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Emily Duggan officiating. Burial to take place in Loch End Cemetery, Catalone.
Online condolences may be sent to our web page at www.chantfuneralhome.com.
Donations can be made to the SPCA, or the Palliative Care Unit, CBRH.
And when I shall die,
Take her and cut her out in little stars,
And she will make the face of heaven so fine
That all the world will be in love with night
And pay no worship to the garish sun.
