William 'Toss' MacAulay

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of William Thomson MacAulay of Royal Avenue, Sydney, at home, on Friday, Oct. 24, 2014.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Neil and Rhodena (MacQueen) MacAulay.
Toss was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with the Cape Breton Highlanders overseas. He was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 12, Sydney, where he served on the executive committee, the bursary committee, the poppy campaign (Cape Breton District), the sick and visiting committee and also served as chairman of the comfort fund.
For 47 years, he was employed in the Heavy Mills Department at Sydney Steel. Toss served 50 years as an elder of Bethel Presbyterian Church, Sydney and was also a member of the men’s and senior choir.
Surviving are his loving wife of 65 years, Kathleen Olive 'Ollie' (MacKeigan); daughters, Lynn (Harold) Gillespie, Mira, Carol (Glenn) MacLeod, Jean (Wayne) Martin, and Ann Margaret (Jim) Swayne, all of Sydney; grandchildren, Bradley, Jean, Adam, Katie, Richard, Christopher, Tracey, Haley and Ruth Ann; great-grandchildren, Madison and Reese.
The last surviving member of his immediate family, Toss was predeceased by his sisters, Anna Burns and Alexandra Mills and brother, Norman. He was also predeceased by a grandson, David Thomson.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Bethel Presbyterian Church on Monday 11 a.m., with Rev. Robert Lyle officiating. Interment in Oakfield Cemetery.
