Swinamer, G. Bruce - It was with sadness that we announced the sudden passing of Gerald Bruce Swinamer, age 71, of Windsor Forks, Hants Co., who passed away on Friday, November 7, 2014, at Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on November 29, 1942, in Windsor, he was the son of Catharine (Edwards) McIvor and the late Gerald E. Swinamer. This saddened family is heralded by a life lived. Bruce was an adventurer from a youngster providing many challenges and fun times for the Three Mile Plains family. His first career stint was in Toronto working for ‘de Havilland Aircraft Canada’ and he visited Nova Scotia in the summers in his prized brand new 1964 red Mustang. Soon the pull of the Maritimes brought him back home. During this period he operated, with his parents, the Hawthorne Grocery and Meats in Dartmouth while working at the offices of Moosehead Breweries. Shortly after he and brother Carl, acquired Rideau Furriers, in Dartmouth and Charles Brown Furriers in Halifax. After many years of business together, Bruce became the proprietor of the merged Rideau Brown Furriers. He was a past President of the local BBB and also played an instrumental role in the startup of the Vaughan’s Volunteer Fire Department. His home, in later years, was back to Windsor at Ski View Farm and Stables. The farm provided deep enjoyment for Bruce, and his companion Betty, with their prized Haflinger horses, his “many” tractors’ and the ongoing endeavor to produce the perfect meats from his backyard smoker. He was a member of the board of directors and past president of the Canadian Haflinger Association. Bruce leaves behind his loving mother, Catharine “Kaye” (Edwards); best friend and companion, always by his side, Betty Goodwin; son, Mark Swinamer (Veronica); daughter, Wendy McKay (Rene); sister, Dawn Loner (Arthur); brothers, Carl (Cora); Larry (Susan); Alan (Ann); and by Kay (mother of Mark and Wendy); grandchildren, Brittney, Madison, and Mackenzie, children of son Mark; Katie and Hannah, children of daughter Wendy; many nephews, nieces and a wide community of friends. The family wishes to acknowledge the kindness and care from all at the Hants Community Hospital. Honoring Bruce’s wishes, cremation has taken place with a private family interment at a later date. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate the life of Bruce was 1:30-4 p.m. Thursday, November 13, 2014, in the Vaughans Fire Department Hall, 1884 Highway 14, Lower Vaughans.
