Marcel Tourigny
Passed on: November 8th, 2014
Tourigny: Marcel Tourigny, aged 74, of Ponteix, SK passed away suddenly November 8, 2014. Marcel will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 50 years Maria (Teichroeb), his son Shaun and his wife Shauna, his daughter Nikki Perkins and husband Cory and Liliane Gauthier (Alain), his sister and his brothers Guy (Evelyn) and Johnnie (Helen) and numerous nephews and nieces. He was adored by his grandchildren Kyler and Trey, Shaunee and Dakota. Marcel was the third child of Orian and Yvonne (Bonneville) Tourigny. He attended Ponteix School and College St. Matthieu in Gravelbourg. Marcel was teacher and principal of the Ponteix School for many years and numerous students benefitted from his love and teaching of mathematics, science and industrial arts. Good teachers do more than guide us through our lessons and prepare us for standardized tests. They inspire us to love their subjects and to love learning all our lives. Marcel's students often mention that he was more than a teacher who passed through their doors-he was a mentor and a friend, too. Prior to teaching he spent time in the Air Force as a pilot. Marcel was always very busy having many interests. Being a journeyman carpenter he had a passion for building and for finishing carpentry of all kinds. Marcel worked hard to make sure that the skating rink that his father Orian designed and built could still be used to this day. He worked in conjunction with others to raise the capital and install artificial ice in the arena, and later along with his students, renovated the roof. He spent all his summers at Lac Pelletier enjoying fishing, golfing and napping. Many of his hours at the lake were spent helping to redesign and renovate the golf course. He fileted at least 4 million perch for his children and his grandchildren who challenged him by catching them as fast as he could filet them. Everyone enjoyed adventures on the many boats he built. Next summer his lake family at the club house will miss his daily jokes at morning coffee and the jack fish will get a break from his 20 casts (math teachers have a need to count) in the lake between 5:00 and 6:00 in the morning. Marcel loved many sports. He played hockey for many years finishing his hockey career as right wing on the Ponteix Benos Old Timers. He coached many school sports including curling, basketball, and volleyball. Marcel was predeceased by his parents Orian and Yvonne Tourigny, his younger brother Rene and wife Joyce and Maria's father and mother Peter and Elizabeth Teichroeb, her brother Johnny and sister Betty. Prayers will be held Thursday, November 13th at 7:30 pm and the funeral at 2:00 pm Friday, November 14th. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the upgrading the equipment of the Ponteix Health Centre in care of Doctor Noble Irwin Foundation. The family would like to thank everyone for their kind thoughts and support during this difficult time. Lemieux Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.
