Marian Ying Lee
(Lee Kwan Yee Ying)
June 19, 1925 – November 1, 2014
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marian Ying Lee (Lee Kwan Yee Ying) on Saturday, November 1st, 2014 at the age of 89. Marian was born in 1925 in Gum Woo, Hoiping, Guangdong, China, into a family of 4 siblings. She is survived by her loving husband Chuck; sister Tina; children: Gordon (Deb), Mae (Brent), Dave (Carol) and Alan (Fiona); grandchildren: Michelle (Carl), Joe (Cindy), Greg, Amanda (Tyler), Carrington (Robert); two great granddaughters; nephew Tak Woo; and many other nephews, nieces, and cousins. She was predeceased by her Mother; Liu Mae Fung, Father; Kwan Sung Hoy, son; Cue, two sisters; Yee Hun and Yee Fay, and brother; Kwan Lun.
In 1942 Marian married Chuck Lee. They owned a grocery store from 1946-1953 in the town of Golden Chicken, and lived in the suite above the store. While in China, Cue and Gordon were born. In 1953 the family moved to Hong Kong. In 1954 Chuck immigrated to Swift Current where he worked for his father, Lam Lee, at the family owned greenhouse and grocery store. Four years later, in 1958, Marian and their two sons immigrated to Swift Current where they reunited with Chuck. In subsequent years, three more children were born; Mae, Dave and Alan. Together Chuck and Marian owned and operated Chuck’s Snappy Foodway, Civic Shopping Centre, The Dairy King and Mini Golf. Marian had been a devoted member of the Chinese Alliance church since 1963. She led a healthy and active lifestyle. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting, crochet, watching her Chinese soap operas and gardening. She took great pride in her gardens, from the terraced rock gardens filled with flowers, to her bountiful vegetable garden where she enjoyed gardening right up until last year. Sharing her home grown fruits and vegetables with others gave her great joy. Chuck and Marian were fortunate enough to have travelled the world. Perhaps the most fulfilling trip was in 2008 when the family travelled to Hong Kong, Macau, Guangzhou, Kai Ping and the town of Golden Chicken where they were able to share with their children the family birthplaces. In July, Chuck and Marian had celebrated 72years of marriage. Marian was a beautiful woman with a kind soul. She was highly principled and nurturing with a generous spirit and a great sense of humour. Those that knew her will remember her hearty laugh and continuous giggle. She led a fulfilling life and demonstrated unwavering gratitude in spite of adversity. She was steadfast in her faith in God and she will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. Her spirit will be cherished in our hearts forever. The family would like to thank her doctors and nurses for her care and the friends and family that visited her during her illness. Chuck, a proud member of the Lions Club for 50 years, would like to thank the fellow Lions for arranging an Honour Guard for his wife. It was a memorable tribute. God bless you Marian, may you rest in peace.
