Mary Gamble

Mary Aganetha Gamble
Mary was born on September 29, 1917 in Laird, Sk. the fourth child of Jacob D. and Aganetha (Doerksen) Friesen. She had 2 older brothers, Abe (1909) and Benny (1916) one older sister, Helen (1914), and 1 younger sister, Edna (1919). Sadly, Mary's mother passed away when she was only 2 years old.
In 1950, Mary married Jack Gamble. Mary & Jack lived on the farm and then in the little hamlet of Pambrun for 61 years. They had 4 children, Rodney (Vickie), Ken (Linda), Lynne (Kevin) and Shannon (Danny Patton, Isaac Martens). Her grandchildren, Angela (Chris) Gamble Hiebert, Richard Gamble, Megan, Erin, Kendra Langager and Bethany (Drew) Langager Warkentin & Nathan and Joel Gamble gave her great joy. Even in her final days she would noticeably brighten when talking on the phone with Mackenzie or Lukas Hiebert, her only great-grandchildren.
Mary and Jack¹s home became the hub for the extended family. Listening to their stories you soon discover how much their farm hospitality meant to them and others - friends & strangers alike. Often laughter could be heard over a game of scrabble with the anticipation of freshly baked cinnamon buns.
The lack of formal education did not limit Mary. She pursued life-long learning - reading, baking, playing piano and singing. She loved to create - knitting, crocheting, and of course sewing! Mary's love of beautiful things extended to nature. Watching birds at the bird bath proved a favourite pastime. Countless dishpans full of grey water kept her flowers flourishing in the hot, dry summers of southern Saskatchewan.
The 1960's and early 70s provided significant challenges for Mary and Jack and their daughter, Shannon. Their faith in God enabled them to face those and future ones with dignity and grace.
At 94 years of age Mary was ready for someone else to take over the cooking and cleaning. They moved to Sunshine Villa in Tofield where they lived beside their daughter, Shannon, just blocks away from Lynne. They remained there until declining health took them to Viking Extendicare Thanksgiving weekend.
Mary was Jack's honoured queen for 64 years and she flourished under that attention. Their love for each other was a constant inspiration to others. How thankful we are that because of Jesus, "we do not grieve like those who have no hope." We will share eternity. Mary is finally HOME.
A funeral service was held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Bardo Lutheran Church, Tofield, Alberta with Pastor Kevin Langager officiating.
