May 4 1936 November 18 2014. Passed Suddenly but Peacefully away at The Pleasantview Towers in St.John's at age 78. Predeceased by his wife Gertrude (2007), Brothers Peter and Jack, Sisters Alice, Mary, and Patricia. Leaving with fond and loving memories his brother Reg and sister Anne his six children Cathy (Orville Huffman), Eleanor (Brenard Menke deceased), Velma (Roger McKinnon), Sylvia (Gary Fox), PJ (Colleen) Francis (Tammy) 16 grandchildren and other family and friends. Special Thanks to all staff at the Pleasantville Towers formerly Hoyles Escasoni for their care over the past two years. Phil is best known for starting Power's Surplus and Salvage in 1981 evolving to Power's Castle Building Supplies in recent years. He and his wife Gertrude built the business and worked endlessly to make it a success. It has grown to be a very successful family run business due to their efforts. Customers and Suppliers alike will miss his presence at the stores on Ropewalk Lane and Alexander Street. He was a fixture for many years at hockey rinks and soccer fields following the activities of his sons. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations can be made to the Easter Seals Newfoundland and Labrador. Resting at Cauls Funeral Home on LeMarchant Road Thursday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 and Friday from 10 to 9. Funeral Mass to take place on Saturday from Mary Queen of Peace Parish at 10 a.m.. Cremation to follow with private burial service at a later date.
