Spicer, Warren Edward - The homecoming of Warren Edward Spicer, 90 of New Glasgow, took place at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow on Saturday November 22, 2014.
Warren was born in Spencer’s Island, Nova Scotia on August 12, 1924 to the late Helen(Miller)Spicer of Fall River, Halifax County and the late Leslie Spicer of Spencer’s Island.
At the age of 18, Warren joined the Royal Canadian Signal Corps as a Radio Operator at Barry Field and Camp Borden, Ontario.
After WWII, he went to radio school in Saint John, NB and Halifax, NS. He worked as a radio operator for the Coast Guard.
Warren later became a telecommunication technician for Western Union in Bay Robert’s, Newfoundland. He and his wife and children moved from Newfoundland to New Glasgow, NS in December 1966.
The majority of his working years were as a janitor for the school board. He also enjoyed his time as a school crossing guard with the New Glasgow Police Dept. until the age of 70.
Warren was a member of The Society of Wireless Pioneers and a Ham Radio Operator. His call letters were VE1 AQU.
He was an active member of the former Munroe Avenue Baptist Church(currently the Maranatha Bible Church in Abercrombie), where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Greeter and Usher.
He is survived by his wife, the former Barbara(Rafter), New Glasgow; sons Robert(Lois), Sask; John(Roxann), New Glasgow; daughters, Anne, New Glasgow; Carla, New Glasgow; Cathie(Wade)MacPherson; New Glasgow; grandchildren Andrew Spicer, New Glasgow; Amanda Spicer, USA; Brett Spicer, New Glasgow; Tyler MacPherson and Cristin MacPherson, New Glasgow.
He was predeceased by a granddaughter Corissa Spicer in infancy.
Cremation to take place.
The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Tuesday at the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. A memorial service will be held at 1 pm Wednesday from the Maranatha Bible Church, 490 Abercrombie Road, New Glasgow with Pastor Jerry Stearns presiding. Burial will take place in Brookside Cemetery, New Glasgow. Reception to follow burial at the church.
Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Warren may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
