C. Leighton Stoddart

Stoddart, C. Leighton, beloved husband, father, grandfather age 87, of Masstown, passed away peacefully at Colchester East Hants Health Center on November 23, 2014 with family at his side. Born at South Side, Shelburne County April 26, 1927, he was the son of the late James Harold and Isabelle Mae (Nickerson) Stoddart. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary (Wilson) Stoddart; daughters, Patricia (Gerald) Core, Carnegie, PA and Bonnie (Randy) Withrow, Bible Hill; son, Kendall Stoddart, Masstown; grandsons, Michael (Becka) Terry, Borden, ON; Jason (Kim) Withrow, Bedford; Cory (Julie) Withrow, Beechville; Kevin Stoddart, Baker Lake, NU and David (Ashley) Tunnillie, Kentville; granddaughters, Jennifer Terry, Kingston, ON; Kristi (Brian)Withrow, Petawawa, ON and Crystal (Vernon) Johnson, Truro; son-in-law, Larry (Josephine) Terry, Cape Broyle, NL; daughter-in-law, Ruth Neevick, Baker Lake, NU; 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews. As well as his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Stanley, Alpheus, Lindsay, and George; sisters, Geneva and Evangeline; half-brothers, Alton, Angus and Myrvil Smith; half-sisters, Etta (Smith) Ross and Sadie Smith. Leighton moved to Truro in 1950 and worked for Caulfield Motors. In 1957 Leighton joined American Motors Canada Ltd. (AMC) as Atlantic Zone Parts & Service Manager, retiring in 1982. After retirement he lived in Barrington for a number of years, then later moved to Masstown. He enjoyed visits with family and friends, his pets, travel and time spent at the cottage. He was a member of the United Church of Canada, serving as an elder in St. David’s United Church, Bible Hill and Wesley United Church, Barrington. He was a member of the United Commercial Traveler’s and the Men's Club, DGM (Debert, Glenholme, Masstown). He was a former member of the Truro Lion’s Club. There will be no visitation or funeral service according to his wishes. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Colchester East Hants Health Centre Foundation, 600 Abenaki Road, Truro, Nova Scotia B2N 5A1, Erskine United Church, Glenholme, or charity of choice.
