­­Gerald Hayman Reid, age 91, of Belmont Ave., Stellarton, passed away peacefully, November 24th, 2014 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow with his family by his side.
Born in Westville, he was a son of the late George N. and Annie H. (Hayman) Reid.
Gerald joined the RCAF and served overseas with the R.A.F. as a tail gunner, Lancaster Bomber Squadron No. 166. After returning from WWII he went to work with the Pictou County Power Board and retired as a district supervisor with Nova Scotia Power following a 38 year career. He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton where he served as an elder for 51 years, he also acted as the superintendent of Sunday School. Gerald was a 60 year member of Western Star Masonic Lodge No. 50 Westville and also a member of 110 Wing RCAF in Stellarton.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years Isabel, Stellarton; children: Gerald (Rhoda), Sheila (Eric), Philip (Rhonda); grandsons: Craig, Jay and Justin; brother George (Patsy).
He was predeceased by sisters Flora Ann and Catherine, brothers James and Jack.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel, Stellarton. Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday from First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton with Rev. Charles McPherson officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Gerald may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton.
