Walking is the great adventure, the first meditation, a practice of heartiness and soul primary to humankind. Walking is the exact balance between spirit and humility. — Gary Snyder.
Mom was a loving mother, a grandmother, a caring sister and an aunt. She was a good neighbour and a loyal friend. After a long and gutsy battle with cancer she left her life journey on Nov. 26, 2014, while lying in our arms.
Mom loved her daily walks, writing letters to her friends, baking, cleaning and organizing. She enjoyed her visits to the library, crocheting and gardening. She treasured the simple pleasures in life and her time with family.
Born and raised in Ingonish, Mom is survived by Maxine (Joe), and her grandson Luke; Clara (Michael) and her grandsons, Evan (Liz), Taylor and Samuel; the father of her children and friend Ewart; brothers, Clancy (Sadie), and Roy; sisters, Ann and Hannah. She was predeceased by her parents, Alfred and Louisa (Dupe) Stockley, five brothers and five sisters.
The celebration of our mother’s life will begin with a time of fellowship and sharing at St. John’s Hall in Ingonish on Friday, Nov. 28, 4-8 p.m. It will continue on Saturday, Nov. 29, 11 a.m. at the Anglican Church with Rev. Dr. Carolyn Sharpe officiating. A reception will follow at the church hall.
Special thanks to Dr.Murray, Wanda Barron, homecare, palliative care and staff at Buchanan Memorial Community Health Centre for their care and kindness.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to local palliative care or Cape Breton Regional Library (Ingonish Branch).
Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
