A Life Tribute was presented by his best friend Digger McBean. Honorary Pallbearers were all who shared in his life. The Interment Service took place at Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, Sk. Michael is survived by his children; Doug (Ann) of Jasper, Ab.; Loralee (Rod) Orthner of Swift Current and Scott (Chantelle) of Regina, Sk.; his precious grandchildren Brendan, Mackenzie and Jack Albert and Karlson Orthner. His mother and father-in-law Alma and Cameron Halverson; his brother Oliver (Marguerite) Albert and sister, Julia (James) Swab; sister-in-law Judy (Gary) Weitz and sister-in-law Donna Albert; special friends of the family, Digger and Colleen McBean and Claire and Murray Carefoot. He was predeceased by his loving wife Andrea; his parents John and Mary and brothers Steve, John, Joe and sister Mary. Mike, as he was known to most, was born October 1, 1940 on a farm near Meskanaw, Saskatchewan to John and Mary Albert. He spent his formative years on the farm and attended school at a small country school called Stoneless until grade 9. He would later achieve his grade twelve through the GED program. He met the love of his life and future bride, Andrea Halverson, while buying grain for the United Grain Growers in Leinan, Sask. They were married on April 21, 1962 in Swift Current. They moved to Fox Valley in 1965 where they spent the next nine years. In 1974, work brought them back to Speedy Creek where they met up with the "Jubilee Drive Gang" and became lifelong friends. In 1980, Michael became an area rep for the Canadian Wheat Board and the family moved to Rosetown where they spent seven years building more relationships and lifelong friendships. In 1987, they returned to Swift Current where he continued to work and reside until his health forced him to retire in 1996. Farming was in his blood as evidenced by his many years he worked alongside Grandpa seeding and harvesting the crops each year. He enjoyed the solitude of the tractor and the trailer in Leinan. He often talked about putting a home there but Mom would have no part of that. Mike took great pride in his children, Doug, Loralee, and Scott. Nothing brought him more joy than watching them participate in all their extra-curricular activities wherever it took him. He would travel near and far to be by their side wherever their lives would take them. He loved Ann and Chan like daughters and Rod like a son. His beloved grandchildren Brendan, Mackenzie, Jack and Karlson brought a sparkle to his eyes. Dad also enjoyed spending time with his friends. He had the best sense of humor and could make a joke out of any situation, much like his sons today. He could recite poems from the heart, sing country songs and whistle like no one else could. The last few years have been difficult since Mom has been gone and his health has deteriorated. The last six months he fought through his pain and seemed to find peace knowing that he would soon be dancing with the love of his life. Special thanks to the staff at the Herbert Nursing Home for the care he was given over the last 4 years. Mike will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by his family and friends. We find strength knowing Mom and Dad are togehter again. In his memory, memorial donation may be made to the Arthritis Society, 110-2550 12 th Ave, Regina, Sk. S4P 3X1 or the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre St., Regina, Sk. S4P 2R3. Warren's Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
