DEAL, Helen Blanche (Benedict) - passed away peacefully at the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, on Wednesday, December 10 in her 92nd year, with family by her side. She was the widow of Owen Deal (1990) and lived in Bedford for 61 years. Born in Avondale, Hants County, she was one of 11 children of the late John and Henrietta (O’Toole) Benedict. Mom loved to cook, enjoyed music and sports on TV, especially curling, tennis and wrestling. Bingo was a favourite pastime and she faithfully attended the Bedford Legion Tuesday night bingo for 50 years. Helen is survived by daughters, Kathleen Bartlett, Bedford and Brenda Senyk, St. Catharines, ON; son, Gary (Betty) Deal, South Rawdon. She leaves nine grandchildren, John, Klowa, Marianne, Angela, Corey, Sherry, Melanie, Jay and Cody; 13 great-grandchildren, Sarah, Holly, Stephen, Justin, Christopher, Jacob, Braydon, Austin, Maxsim, Jason, Laura, Kylar and Tristan and four great-great grandchildren, Damian, Emily, Sophia and Ava. She is also survived by sister, Georgina Deal and sister-in-law, Blanche Cochrane, of Windsor; numerous nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by brothers, Earl, Charles, Clifford, Irving and Robert; sisters, Elise Julian, Louise Julian, Lavinia “Vinny” Harvie and Hazel Bosko. The family would like to thank the Doctors and Nursing staff of the QEII Hospital for their excellent care of Mom. Arrangements were entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., PO Box 981, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0 (902-798-8317). Visitation was held Monday, December 15 from 12-1 p.m. in the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 95, Bedford. A legion tribute service, followed by a reception, was held at 1 p.m. Private family interment took place in South Rawdon United Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Helen may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 95, Bedford.
